What a short memory some people have!

OZ went through one of its most prosperous periods in its brief history and that started BEFORE the Resources boom and in spite of:

the SE Asian economic crisis;

the East Timor Intervention;

the terrorist attack on NY on 9/11 and its implication for all Democratic socities;

the worst drought in living memory;

the Gun Buyback;

the abosolute necessity to dramatically raise Defence expenditure to counter the rise of terorist groups;

the Bali terrorist bombings;

miltary assistance to counter the Talban Fundamentalists in Afghanstan;

miltary and economic assitance to some of our close Island neighbours;

And this was achieved inspite of big spending State Labor Governments sitting on a flood of money from a very generous GST and Stamp Duty and, in the Resources rich state, mineral royalties. And like the child in Charles Dickens' novel they demand more largesse from the Feds!
Aussies who were willing to work never had it so good. Those who are still complaining about this period were either overseas or sitting on their collective.....
