    So to expand, it's not that I think that Paralana is necessarily bad, just that Madrid offers particularly low-hanging fruit that can be retrofitted into the existing heat distribution network (that, at present, costs a hefty $100/MWt) to generate exceedingly low-risk returns.

    Paralana simply cannot match the scope of Madrid, which is a genuinely low-risk, small but exciting project.

    As can be seen from their presentation, the reservoir conditions are highly favourable for a high flow, low temperature direct heat project.

    Geothermal direct heating already has 5000MWt installed capacity in Europe, and PTR estimate they can be generating revenue by 2010, which is ambitious but not impossible.

    The project can be two-tiered, either targeting a simple shallow reservoir, or the hotter secondary reservoir beneath, at 150C.
