Papua & New Guinea gold miner Lihir Gold said its board had approved a $696 million plan to upgrade its Lihir Island operations to lift gold production capacity to about 1 million ounces a year from 2011.
The upgrade will increase gold production by an average 240,000 ounces a year over the life of the operation and boost output by 2021 by 2.35 million ounces to more than 10 million ouces, Lihir said.
