Lihir Gold is the next takeover candidate for the a Major following Aurion Gold being taken out by Placer. Annual production and reserves are significantly upgraded on a quarterly basis. Lihir is not PNG - one cannot equate the risk - different tribes, different islands.
The question is whom? Of course, Newmont sold out its previous stake to concentrate on its 'core' assets. SA-based Gold Fields has taken an interest in Sino Mining in China. There is a strong list of candidates.
Anyone with an opinion on a likely takeover offer for LHG? The shareprice has retraced to a reasonable level.
