Oh my two bits on why there is gas shortage in Australia and why supply dynamics are currently poor in Australia.. but then again gas high prices can put a constraint dampening demand...
Bass strait Victoria's traditional source of cheap gas is depleting. Coal seam gas 2P reserves in QLD is poor we are talking about coal fines and poor permeability.. new CSG wells will have low productivity hence unit cost of production will be high.. but the major are locked into long term contracts (and they are probably regretting making them oil price linked) and will continue to run those LNG trains... CSG development NSW is dead.
So that leaves the other basins.. If beetaloo development continues to looking promising + and EEG holds the largest acreage will surely be on the major's M&A pipeline.
