In database land structured data has been king for a very long time. Oracle and Microsoft have been big players in this space. Structured data is stored in tables which are linked via a relationship e.g. primary key and foreign keys. Information can be extracted by joining tables using a structured query language better known as SQL.

In recent years unstructured data stored in documents have really gained popularity. These databases are known as NoSQL databases which store objects in object notation similar to JSON which can be retrieved and are ready for use in an application without the need to serialization. NoSQL databases allow objects like arrays and media files which are stored in blob format.

The progression of NoSQL databases allows for better application development in a much faster time frame because the main difference is the ability to scale the database without requiring detailed planning and design.

If you consider what I have just explained and then you add to that an API that allows a developer to add additional features such as machine learning by simply accessing an API powered by BrainChip this should really give you an indication of how evolved the AI industry is becoming.
