    I can picture a negotiation process that might have happened......

    2011
    Linc - this asset is worth $1b and thats freaking cheap in this market.
    Buyer - I will give you $500m, you need this money
    Linc - get lost we are not that desperate

    2012
    Linc - Hey you wanna buy that coal mine - you offered us $500M and we are happy with that.
    Buyer - I will give you $200M - you need the money
    Linc - get lost we are not that desperate

    2013
    Linc - Hey you wanna buy that coal mine - you offered us $200M and we are happy with that.
    Buyer - I will give you $50M - you need the money
    Linc - Get lost we are not that desperate

    2014
    Linc - Hey you wanna buy that coal mine - you offered us $50M and we are happy with that.
    Buyer - I will give you $10M
    Linc - Get lost we are not that desperate

    2015
    Linc - Hey you wanna buy that coal mine - you offered us $10M and we are happy with that.
    Buyer - I will give you $5M - you need the money
    Linc - sounds fair but how about some royalties down the track one we have become insolvent as a bit of a sweetner for the announcement?
    Buyer - deal.
