I was not criticizing the police in any way. I think that once they acted they did so with bravery & professionalism.

In situations like this the person in charge should be working on the assumption that the person is a terrorist and is prepared to die and take everyone with them and that he is going to do so at any minute. They should also be working on the assumption that negotiation is not going to work.
Therefore the process/protocols should be altered as of yesterday to reflect the assumptions of the criminals intent and act accordingly.

The intent of the rescuers should be that the terrorist's or possible terrorist's will be dealt with in the swiftest most effective method available with lethal force being the first and preferred option.

The Lind café event was not a one off event, It is happening somewhere in the world every day & they still try to negotiate with them. Seriously!

Its time the politicians and do gooder politically correct human rights idiots with their touchy feely lets talk about it first crap and the love always wins over evil bs is ignored & the law abiding innocent population is placed first and foremost above all else.

If the authorities intention is to try and work out what the terrorist's problem is, then they can do it afterwards as part of their investigations.
The investigations after these events nearly always uncovers what should have been assumed to be what the terrorist's intentions were leading up to and what the result was going to ultimately eventuate.

How many times do we have to find out after an event that the police had all this info on the terrorists and never acted on it.
How many times have we seen the investigations reveal the terrorist belonged to a group that had been under investigation.
How many investigations will reveal that policy & protocol did not work.

Continuing to try and get a better outcome using the same failed methodology and expecting a different result is just plain stupidity.
Get on with it and take the shot at the first opportunity.
