Having said that, 4 days over 40 is absolutely not even close to the worst heat wave Australia has suffered.

We have had a heatwave recorded in the 1800s that was 4 weeks over 35, with spikes near 50.

They don't use that data because they don't like it.

Read the newspaper from the time if you want. Hundreds of Australians died in this heatwave with reports of 112 Fahrenheit in the shade as the average.
