The thing is to recognise these plays and coat-tail along with them where possible. Don't think me unkind when I say I don't buy into Aussie companies for their fundamentals - Australia's stockmarket & associated industries are well documented as being full of thoroughly corrupt and self serving individuals and cliques - I buy for the psychology and sentiment. It's the story that seems to sell, not the truth of the matter. The majority of management of Australian companies (and U.S. U.K etc etc etc) would be in jail or making clothes pegs in some sort of sheltered workshop if they hadn't been able to slither into their current positions and thus become "fine upstanding pillars of society", which helps to explain much of our societal ills at present
