they are not the cash cows you would think. sure the government underwrites to degree... but you still need close to capacity for the centres to work financially. at the end of every year each centre must fill up to max again due to departures into the school/ kinder system.
if there are new centres opening then this is not always guaranteed..
also there has been a wage explosion for carers which if not kept under control along with sick leave etc that can erode profits very quickly.
cpi increases on leases increase rent payable
unemployment very quickly reduces demand
all these are negatives
