I was watching one of the videos where Dr Fong was saying that he is very happy with the speed of the trials and he said that IMU is quicker than what he expected. I guess that he would know a thing or two about trials and time required. People with 2-4 failed lines of therapy have nothing left in them and are close to dying. If screening is not good then you will have patients dying before even virus start working. You can't compromise trial for quick recruitment.
