Unfortunately I think that is the way it has to be.
The essence of being a professional is that putting your own interests above your clients is never justified.
Nobody is pure, but if people sell their souls , most end up unhappy anyway.
Doesn't have to be a crusade if it is too dangerous, just getting away as fast as possible, reasonable.
Or, as I've said above, pre-empt any possible conflicts.
