I know it would be better if Dirk didn't uum but I don't think it is a lack of confidence at all. Some people have that habit and I hear it as a his way of buying thinking time where others use silence or pauses. Right now I would rather have that than fluid and smooth because that didn't do us much good really. I have seen far too many people promoted way beyond their level of competence because they are articulate to regard that as a primary criterion for judging competence. (I'm sure you have examples as well). Anyway maybe he can add that to his development goals.
