Never were so many ill-founded assertions posted by so few to so many.

It is not really ramping, but I can think of two possible explanations for the syndrome.

They believe in the power of positive thinking, to the extent that if they say something positive is going to happen (however unlikely) then they may make it happen by telepathy.

Or else we are entirely mistaking what they mean. They are using the phrase 'going to list' in the sense of the Titanic's fate.
