France: Clinical Drug Trial Leaves 6 Hospitalized, 1 of Them Brain Dead, Health Minister Says
Health Minister Marisol Touraine said patients voluntarily took a drug for a Phase 1 clinical trial. She did not give information about the drug and denied reports it was a cannabis-based painkiller.
In a statement, Bial said it would cooperate with an investigation to "determine in a rigorous and exhaustive manner" what had happened.
She said the drug acted on natural receptors found in the body known as endocannabinoids which regulate mood and appetite, and not the compound found in the cannabis plant.
