Governments of all persuasions in this country have a pathetic history of being slow to innovate and take advantage of new opportunities placed before them and our country is the poorer fo that. For those old enough to remember the arrival of the "Sarich Orbital Engine" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarich_orbital_engine) will remember how the government failed to support Ralph Sarich at a critical time of the engines development and the technology was sold to a car maker in the USA, never to be seen again because of its threat to their car industry.
We complain in Australia about China and what they are doing to our manufacturing industry but do precious little to mitigate the problem. My great fear for Australia is that we will continue to be let down by poor governance across the board in both government and business until we have courageous, innovative and skillful leaders to break this sad state of affairs.
