Thanks for the thoughtful discussion and opinions everyone. Nui, you make a convincing argument, though I don't think it's made stronger by Lowry's comments - IMO he's proven himself an unreliable blowhard. An opinion I think may here share, and I can't go changing my opinion just because he starts saying what I want to hear! At any rate, your point is well taken.
Here is a second, follow-up piece from Laurentian Research:
Reading this, their position seems a little more nuanced than I first thought. Yes, they predict oversupply in 2018-19, but they also are very bullish on the future of travel being electric. Lithium, they argue, is the new oil, and we should expect to see a similar bonanza in the coming years and even decades. The take-away I believe, is to be smart about where you put your money, get in for the long-term, and stick to purer play, low cost producers, specifically Ore. I suppose it isn't rocket science - pretty obvious the direction of travel - but between everyone's contributions, and the long-term appraisal, I for one feel more at ease.
There is a third article in the series covering cobalt for those who are interested - not a topic I've thought much on, but if anyone has thoughts they'd like to share, I'd love to hear them:
