    • The 2016 Forbes publication is nearly 6 years old and this issue is flagged in red at the start of the article.
    • In 2021, Forbes published an article about the falsehoods of climate change denial titled "5 Big Lies About Climate Change, And How Researchers Trained A Machine To Spot Them". The article stated that “most climate fact-checking [by denialists] focuses on science myths".
    • The latest research published in 2021 reported a 99.9% consensus that global warming is caused by human activity (1, 2, 3)
    • Furthermore, in 2021 NASA reported that humans are causing global heating.
    • The 2022 IPCC report states "Since IPCC AR5, human influence on the Earth’s climate has become unequivocal, increasingly apparent, and widespread, reflected in both the growing scientific literature and in the perception and experiences of people worldwide (high confidence)."
    • The same report also states "Climate change is a threat to human well-being and planetary health. Any further delay in concerted anticipatory global action on adaptation and mitigation will miss a brief and rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all. (very high confidence)."
    • This Earth Science discussion outlines some of the reasons articles like the one in Forbes (2016) misconstrue the evidence about the scientific consensus on anthropogenic climate change.
    • Also, an article published by the British Journal of Political science in 2021 stated that of the reported 3% of climate contrarians, only 3% of them were climate experts (0.09%). The others did not meet expert criteria and were involved in industries "who make up the climate change countermovement (i.e. fossil fuel advocates). The data also reveal most contrarians to be aged sixty-five or older."

Regardless of anyone's personal opinions about the causes and significance of climate change, up-to-date evidence from authoritative sources compels governments worldwide to decarbonise. No doubt the push to address climate change will escalate over the coming years.
