That is very true. It is an amazing place with the rich concentration of Lithium due to continued leaching from groundwater percolating through the volcanic rocks (the original source of most Lithium) of the Andes and concentrating in the lake. Similar conditions to those seen in Bolivia which likely has a similarly massive resource in Salar de Uyuni. Some salt lakes in China in the mountainous inland region may also have a good concentration of Lithium
This is a nice summary:

Of course the same could be said for several other minerals:
Uranium/Copper mining - Olympic Dam contains enough uranium to supply the world's requirements for Uranium for around 100 years (and copper for about 20 years) on what has been already found and is still open at depth, so why should any other company bother?
Iron - 5% of the worlds crust is elemental iron - or about 3.5 billion billion tonnes of Iron - so why the big fuss about a minor with a few megatonnes.
Gold - Trillions of tonnes of gold, Manganese, Magnesium, Platinum, Silver etc in the world's oceans - so why go to all the bother of digging it up?
Similar stories for Aluminium, Phosphate, Salt etc.
The big story is cost of production and other resources produced concurrently.
