The info you give makes a lot of sense for the extended period; and this news in addition to sqe's explanation of the process involved: In the following quote of sqe: " ... But we have seen from the previous pilot announcements, these guys do not just take single measurements. They take hundreds. We also know that analysis involves multiple tests to quantify not only the Li2CO3, but also the impurities, and possibly particle size. Multiple tests ... "
It certainly is not like the 'sausage factory' that I had mistakenly imagined.
Given the news you provided it makes the wait that little easier.
