In view of the above articles remarks and observations as follows:
Three types of batteries LCO – LMO – NMC are vying the same battery target market.
(LCO) The Samsung Galaxy smartphone showed the safety and chargeability weaknesses of Li-on Lithium Cobalt Oxide batteries being used in smartphones.
(LMO) Lithium Manganese Oxide (Spinel) batteries are much safer than (LCO). Nissan Leaf & Chevy Volt use LMD (Manganese Dioxide) batteries and the latest LMD lab tested batteries can be recharged in minutes and are much safer and therefore also being used in medical tools and equipment.
(NMC) The cathode NMC (1/3) Nickel + (1/3) Manganese + (1/3) Cobalt Oxide batteries standard in many EV’s because less expensive and no heating drawbacks.
Manganese could be a possible short term solution to the Lithium and Cobalt anticipated shortages.
Presently the Manganese EMM & EMD supplies are dominated by the Chinese but three North American deposits could rapidly change the playing field.
