Agreed. If you look at electric car design, the batteries are packed and spaced out low in the chassis to improve the centre of gravity. Having them all in one section in a removable manner would be too compromising to the car's dynamics, so won't happen. Not to mention there'd be no standard size and the time it'd take to change a 200-400kg battery would be longer than the recharge time.
As you say, they can charge quickly enough these days that it's a non-issue.
