it’s actually the combination of chemicals used in some types of Lithium Ion batteries that results in “thermal runaway”, massive temperature rises can result very quickly.
Its likely one of the reasons that LFP is fast becoming the preferred chemistry of choice with the likes of Tesla out of the various Lithium Ion technologies. Very low to almost non existent risk of thermal runaway.
Good news, they still use Lithium.
