Last week, it was US-based lithium major Albemarle upgrading its lithium demand projections to 1.2 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) by 2025.

Now Chilean lithium company SQM has joined the party.

“Demand growth in 2018 surprised us again surpassing 27 per cent, and is expect to grow at rates above 20 per cent in 2019,” SQM says.

“Beyond 2019, demand growth continues to look extremely healthy, making us believe that the one million ton per year lithium market may happen sooner than originally anticipated.”
