I think Elon sees only what he needs, so he sees there is enough lithium for him to fulfil his ambitions. I reckon he maybe the first OEM to make a move on a miner and once he does...BOOM! Before he scales refining, he has to secure supply.

Most pundits expect it will be either Canada or Mexico. Canada makes a lot of sense given he is part Canadian and there is already the makings of an early battery industry there. Mexico included as Domestic supply for the purposes of the Inflation Reduction Act and probably offers a cheaper labour force but I favour Canada. Indonesia has been flagged as a possibility, but most of this has come out of Indonesia rather from Elon himself.
