Liontown CEO brushes off Goldman warnings of lithium price pain
Campbell Kwan
Liontown chief executive Tony Ottaviano has brushed off Goldman Sachs analysts’ expectations that lithium prices will drop further to $US15,000 a tonne.
“When I see these predictions ... I just don’t see it, especially when you’ve got the cost of execution increasing the way it is,” he told the Summit.
Ottaviano said Liontown’s customers have not been pointing to Goldman’s analyst warnings about lithium prices dropping, and that there have not been concerns about a wall of supply existing.
He said Liontown was instead seeing customers who were concerned about their ability to secure supply.
He said long-term price predictions were not always correct.
“There was a time when I saw $30 a tonne for iron ore as the long-term price and it’s very rarely traded under $100.”
