With all due respect, Samsung is behind the curve.

A French firm, Blue Solutions, is already putting SSBs in busses (Daimler, et al).

QuantumScape has already provided VW with A-2 SSB test cells, and Solid Power is already producing A-2 test cells for BMW. BMW and SK On are both mass producing Solid Power’s cells in their own production lines (BMW is producing in Bavaria; SK On has been tight-lipped, but given when they announced they were building their line, it should be in production by now).

I happen to be invested in Solid Power, and know that their conversion reaction cell delivers 560 Wh/kg, utilizes a lithium anode, but utilizes a sulfur-based (read: cheaper) electrolyte.

Solid Power and BMW have already announced that they expect to release a new-generation BMW EV by the end of 2025, with a Solid Power SSB in it.

It bears noting that both QuantumScape and Solid Power have other partners (again, knowing Solid Power better, one of their major partners, and shareholders, is Ford). It also bears mentioning that Blue Solutions is with multiple OEMs, including VW, to reduce their SSB size to accommodate EVs.

That’s at least three firms that are WELL ahead of Samsung, and Lord knows what the Chinese are doing.

    Best regards!
