More battery storage has to come......

On days with lots of sun and wind, more power is regularly generated throughout the Netherlands than is consumed at the same time. As long as it is not possible to store sustainable power on a large scale, consumers and companies are also encouraged to use as much electricity as possible at times when the wind is blowing and the sun is shining.

The solution is also to consider paying people to switch their panels off as the grid cannot cope.

Manually disable

Customers will receive an email one day in advance with the date, time and compensation of the next time it is worthwhile to switch off your solar panels. Consumers can do this manually.

But eventually this will be automated, says the spokesperson. Alliander, owner of grid operator Liander, also says in a response that it is investigating whether it will ask homeowners with solar panels to switch off solar panels for a fee. Earlier this summer, Eneco announced that it also wanted to remotely stop the power supply to new business customers with more than 100 panels.

'Flexibility also necessary in the future'

Actually turning off solar panels seems counterproductive, because the aim is to generate as much green energy as possible, which does not release greenhouse gases. However, switching off panels can help with the current problems on the electricity grid, say the initiators.

Nowhere in the article did it mention the idea of domestic storage batteries ! But apparently one in three houses in certain areas have panels so the market is huge. Of course if they all have electric cars they can use that battery.
