I read somewhere an electrical engineer doing a breakdown. He reckon simple maths (for him maybe not me). Anyway apparently half a percent increase needed on current AUS electrical generation to power all existing cars in Australia.
This of course will/might be needed at times that is out of the ordinary. But if there is more demand for example overnight this might be a good thing because night is off peak. Peak demand is all daytime.
Ive seen Tesla charging stations in the U.S and they huge surface area (the roof space of stations/restuarants) that is all covered with solar panels. They not doubt have power wall style batteries charging off that. And this powers the cars that charge while they drink Tesla coffees and eat their food. Which is probably where the profit it..
Maybe not such an impost on the grid as imagined if they (the stations) can generate a lot of their own power and home charging is mainly done overnight...
