Personally I try to independently verify from multiple sources in China because let's face it, that is the powerhouse of the industry. That is no easy task.
In my experience it requires personal connections rather than relying solely on media reports. The downside of that is it can't be substantiated on HC, even if I wanted to... and I don't because it is too valuable to share.
FWIW, I don't think anyone could say for certain what will be in 5 years. It is after all, a rapidly maturing market. Those with the best visibility are the likes of CATL. My suggestion would be to watch what the big players are doing in terms of building out the supply chain and don't write off various regions just because they are too opaque or difficult to research.
The push on HC to completely ignore all reports from a region because the info isn't trustworthy enough results in large chunks of supply being completely ignored. It's as if people are saying, we can't verify it exactly so we'll just put a zero in that column.
