When he co-authored the Guidebook to the Pegmatites of Western Australia almost two decades ago, he never dreamed he was providing a generation of future entrepreneurs with a crucial insight to the type of granite rock that would become the centre of a major mining boom.
In those days, pegmatites were valued for the collection of off-broadway commodities they contained, like tantalum and tin.
"Back then lithium wasn't even discussed," says Calderwood, humbly dismissing suggestions he was preternaturally prescient with the topic of his book.
