South African energy crisis in the media. Articles indicate that most of Namibia energy is imported by South Africa who constantly have blackouts. The country runs mainly off fossil fuels so it seems pointless to have green energy company that relies on that fuel source to operate. Solar is there at karibib but looks like completion isn’t until 2024. Less than 50% of people in Nsmibia have access to power. Seems to me if the DFC were to invest in infrastructure for Namibia it should be for green energy for the people there first before funding a mine that only going to send the mineral to the Middle East. How’s that really benefiting the country? They’d be diverting energy the people could use themselves for a mine? If I was a Namibian resident I’d be like why are we funding projects that are making everyone else richer except us and they are taking our energy which could be generated locally than imported from SA that have problems of their own..
