I have been an owner of a Hyundai Ioniq PHEV for three years.
For about 90% of the time, it runs in EV mode as most of my daily trips are under 60 km per day.
On those occasions that I exceed the range of the battery, it uses petrol at the rate that a micro four cylinder car would use.
Regenerative braking puts charge back into the battery.
Because of this feature, the range of the car far exceeds that of an equivalent ICE vehicle.
It doesn’t take long to learn how to get the best out of regenerative braking to save on petrol consumption on longer trips. There are techniques that assist recharging from regenerative braking. depending on the type of driving you are doing,
I have never had to recharge at a public charging station, all recharging is done at home.
I recently took a road trip of several thousand kilometres without a hitch.
Although not as powerful as a Tesla, in Sports mode, the Ioniq handles the biggest hills with ease and has impressive acceleration when overtaking on the open road.
But as I said before, most of the time I am driving around using the battery only.
