Automatic computer trading selling that extra share to give the appearance of a price drop, also used the other way to give a apparent price increase on virtually no volume. Comes down to if the traders are accumulating or selling at any one time.
Traders and manipulators will try to then use this to support their view depending on if they are buying or selling.
The volume weighted average price carries a lot more relevance at any given time.
