Harking back to government attitude, (to my reading gov does have intelligenceon climate change and more and has been compiling reports on how it will impact people for more than a decade?)here’s a link (maybe already posted?) to a report commissioned by Queensland Department Of Transport and Main Roads as it aims to prepare for the increasing population and the need to set up public infrastructure to deal with this taking into account new technologies that will impact transport systems.

By 2050 the government expects the population of Queensland  to be eight million. (There were five million last year according to Wikipedia )

From the main report : (not in order )
...“In the context of this report, there are three primary technology trends driving changes in mobility - automated vehicle technologies, sustainable vehicle technologies and digital technologies.”

.... “the introduction of AEVs and new mobility service models is likely to have implications for the Queensland Government’s current infrastructure investment program, and highlights the importance of reviewing existing planning and investment appraisal processes.....”

.... “From the table above it is clear that if current revenue policies were to be held constant, Queensland Government revenue is likely to substantially decline when AEVs are deployed....”*

There are a lot of other relevant tables relating to social impact, environmental impact and much more . I just included the one  above because normally when revenue is mentioned, governments listen.

Anyway here’s the lead from the government web page and the link to the report .

    Cheers

... “To better understand how future changes may impact the transport system the Department commissioned KPMG to complete a strategic options assessment to estimate and analyse the expected economic and financial impact of emerging mobility technologies in South East Queensland.

These options explored potential future policy positions the Government could take to respond to new technologies, such as automated electric vehicles. The Mobility Disruptions Strategic Options Assessment report provides a comprehensive evaluation of three potential future fleet deployment scenarios:

    1. Privately owned automated electric vehicles will have minimal effect on car ownership and the future fleet of automated electric vehicles are privately owned.

    2. Commercially owned automated electric vehicles are deployed under a commercial fleet model which move people door to door. These fleet owned vehicles are not integrated with government services and compete with traditional public transport.

    3. Mobility as a Service whereby automated electric vehicles are deployed under a commercial fleet model that is integrated (through feeder services) with public transport services.

This report provides the foundation for further, more detailed analysis on the strategic options identified to better understand how the benefits of emerging technologies could be maximised in Queensland.  Please read the Mobility Disruptions Strategic Options Assessment report here (PDF, 1.83 MB).
