The problem with that statement is that 'gigawatt' is a unit of power, not energy remembering that Energy = Power X time. How long can the average system sustain that power output is the question to work out energy storage lithium rquirement. For example,

    23.4GW charging for 1 sec = 23.4GJ of storage = 6500kwh = 6500kg of LCE
    Remembering that (1kwh = 1000W X 3600s = 3.6MJ) and assuming 1kg LCE/kwh
    Now trying to store 23.4GW for 1 hour = 23.4GW X 3600s = 84,240GJ = 23,400,00kwh = 23.4kt LCE
    23.4GW for 1 day storage = 561.6kt LCE

As an aside, it shows that lithium or any chemical storage is useless for mass global scale storage. 23.4GW is just about the power output of the largest power station on earth, the Chinese Three Gorges Dam (22.5GW). Over a year, it produced about 100TWh of energy which is 100,000kt LCE (about 300 times current global lithium output). And that's just one large power station. The global energy production is around 200,000TWh or 2000 times this!
