Good pick-up Jumpinjoey.
It is speakers like Tony Seba who put what is going to happen into a perspective that people can understand. I've been harping on for ages about how the growth forecasts for Lithium are going to be way beyond what anyone thinks. He mentions in that interview that between 2025-2030, no-one will be making gasoline cars anymore for transportation, such is the disruptiveness of modern technology, EVs in this case.
While I think his timing might be a fraction too soon, if half of all new vehicles were EVs by then, we are still talking 10 times the take up rate/growth rate most are talking about. If 50% on new vehicles were EVs in 2030, that is a production of about 50m/yr, yet there are many forward thinkers that 'see' 2-5m EVs/yr as being a huge uptake by 2025.
With China leading the charge in EVs and almost all car manufacturers having EVs in a couple of years, then companies like Mercedes and BMW already planning for most of their vehicles to be EVs in less than 10 years, the growth rate will be phenomenal, and so will the sheer quantity of lithium needed be huge in a short period of time.
