What follows is highly speculative and expect I might be set straight.
Toshiba is about go commercial with a different anode chemistry for an EV optimised Li Ion battery. The battery has: a longer life (90% capacity after 5000 cycles, faster charge times (320km range in 6minutes) and higher energy density.
What is of particular interest here (PLS) is that the new anode replaces graphite with titanium niobium oxide. It is worth remembering that there is more graphite in a battery than lithium (1kg/kwh vs 0.65kg/kwh).
I am not a geologist but it is my understanding that Niobium is found with Tantalum as accessory minerals in pegmatite intrusions. Like lithium, niobium production is very small and its use in batteries would have a significant proportional effect on its demand.
Considering the Chinese genius for reverse engineering, I find the possibility of GW reverse engineering the Toshiba tech interesting enough to post this
