Not new - lithium greases have been around forever. Petroleum oil bases are thickened into a jelly with lithium compounds to improve adherence to metals and increase temperature resistance. Very important and ongoing application, but unlikely to suddenly increase lithium demand beyond normal growth.
It's lithium batteries and glass/ceramics that will drive the market, at least until other exotic uses emerge.
