Prime Minister Sama Lukonde resigned from office

It's official, the now former Prime Minister Sama Lukonde officially submitted his letter of resignation, this Tuesday, February 20, to the Head of State.

The tenant of the prime minister's office finally opted to sit in the lower house of parliament.

62% of DR-Congolese want to see Alingete in the Prime Minister’s Office



Head of the General Inspectorate of Finance -IGF-, Jules Alingete is the choice of the DR-Congolese to run for Prime Minister.

This inspector general of finances, according to a survey carried out by “Les Points” and published on Sunday February 18, 2024, was designated by 62% of those questioned as the one who has the stature to take over from Sama Lukonde at the helm of the government.

They justified their choice by mentioning the establishment of financial patrol in the various public services – institutions, businesses, establishments, etc.

An initiative which “made it possible to thwart embezzlement and other predations of state resources”.

In the hit established by the “Les Points” institute at the end of this survey, Alingete distances his direct pursuer, Daniel Mukoko Samba, former Chief of Staff of Adolphe Muzito then Prime Minister.

The former Budget Minister under Matata received 28% of the votes cast by the DR-Congolese who recognize in Mukoko Samba a certain mastery of "the socio-economic challenges that the future head of government of the DR-Congo will have to face ".

Jean-Pierre Bemba, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Defense, comes third with 11% thanks, among other things, to his experience acquired during his time as Vice-Presidency of the Republic between 2003 and 2006.

Profile of the next PM

The next Prime Minister must embody competence, rigor and knowledge of the functioning of institutions.

This is what emerges from the survey where the assertions “Be competent in the efficient and rigorous management of the State” and “Have perfect knowledge of State institutions” were each designated by 28.6% as elements essential to the profile of the next Prime Minister.

“Know the country and its problems well”, “Be able to reassure the Congolese population on the security level” and “Be able to reassure the Congolese population on the economic level” are the other criteria each mentioned by more than 20% by the interviewed.

These different criteria required of the next head of government clearly reveal the challenges he will have to face, as the DR-Congo is faced with a multifaceted crisis affecting vital sectors, in particular:

The economy, notably the loss of purchasing power symbolized by the fall of the national currency against foreign currencies, notably the dollar;

— Security with the persistence of the war in the East of the DRC, provoked by Rwanda and its M23 proxies.

Which insecurity is reinforced by the activism of other rebel and terrorist groups who roam the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu, in addition to the Mobondo attackers in Maï-Ndombe;

Considering the criteria previously determined, who has the stature to succeed Sama Lukonde as Prime Minister?

The answers to this question leaned in favor of Jules Alingete Key, currently Inspector General of Finances head of department at the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), accredited with 62% of favorable opinions.
