You are correct. i have no experience in building lithium ion batteries. And neither do you. Zip. Nada. SFA.
That's why when people state that ev batteries only have a certain life, without a shred of evidence to back it up, I call bs.
Just because you know someone that mucks around in a shed with batteries does not make them or you an expert. You are just an uniformed nuffy like the rest of us. When you have actual, documented proof then get back to us.
Otherwise, you're just talking sheet.
Btw. It is how Tesla packaged the batteries and it's own bms that it created that is the key to their batteries longetivity. Technology that many others are copying. That's why Tesla batteries have been superior for a long time. So, Tesla engineering has a major role in why their batteries have been so reliable.
