OT the chemistry ... a lithium cell puts out about 3.6 v or something (EACH cell does that) ...see my other post. That is one of the reasons that cordless drills and stuff no longer use NiMetal. They use Li now. Bigger bang in a smaller box type thing. Nivkel only puts out 1+v per cell (so u need basically 3 nickel cells for the same voltage as a single lithium cell). I will again say that peeps do not care what is inside the throw away box ........ and if the box is too big to throw away then the designers will break it into "serviceable" sections somehow - with each section being a "throw away"- and again peeps will not care. Not making a social call here on that.
