Interesting point Postlapsarian but in the main is that fact lor just an old wives tale. Of course there have been the ABC type of companies that were basket cases but there are others like WOW and BHP which are heavily shorted also.

I think most shorting of this style that we have been seeing in LNC is extremely opportunistic. Also, what I have seen from my charts is that the shorters have a pretty poor record of success. They tend to short at the low points pretty much the same way the longs get in on the highs.

I have charts with the shorts over the last 6 months on hundreds of companies. I would be happy to post them here if you want to give me some examples. It would be an interesting exercise as it would cut out any bias on my side. But you would also need to not look up the shorts either.
