Parkinsons can be beaten but if you don't fight it, it will beat you. My young brother let it defeat him. Two years after diagnosis he suffered dementia; two years on he was in the grave. When I was diagnosed, I did a little research and decided to fight it. I am lucky my daughter is an exercise physiologist. She took up my battle with me and devised an exercise program, a mental gymnastics program and a diet. She now has doctors and specialists referring patients to her for treatment. My problems are balance and diet. Swallowing and reflux are problems, but manageable. A recent brain scan shows no deterioration and I get excellent results with memory tests and IQ. I play a lot of solitaire at a high level of difficulty and do jig saw puzzles of 1000 pieces. Water aerobics and gym are helping with balance. There are positives. A disabled car sticker helps with parking. No matter where I go, I get offers to help. I get offered to "jump" queues. I get people opening doors for me and offering to carry my shopping. People with it don't usually like to admit to having it. They should, because admitting it will help to fight it. Fighting it is a must if you want to beat it.

People are great. I have just had a visit from a young girl and her mother to check on me to see if I was OK. The young one brought a cupcake she had made for me. I paid her back with some flowers. I don't really know who they were.
