Rudd scoffs at Keating as tourism ambassador
19th June 2008, 13:45 WST
Paul Keating's chances of promoting Australian tourism in the UK are as likely as him winning the Eurovision song contest, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says.
A media report today said there was a push for the former Labor prime minister to become the face of a new G'day UK campaign.
While in office Mr Keating was once called the Lizard of Oz by a British tabloid newspaper and provoked controversy when he put his hand on the Queen's back.
“What I've seen today falls in the category of idle speculation,” Mr Rudd told reporters in Canberra.
“It's about as probable I reckon as having John Howard and Paul Keating team up for a dual number in the Eurovision song contest.
And probably about as likely of taking the prize.”
