The mine is not in protected area. It's more than a km away from it as far as I know. if i understand correctly, the worry is, that contaminated water could get from the cesspits (which Talga will have) into ground water into the natura2000 area. but since Talga doesn't use acids in their processing of the ore (unlike all other mines), the water will only be "contaminated" with sand and ore residuals that are in the area anyway. Subsequently, there is no danger of contamination of the rivers. Talga was probably made aware that they need a natural permit for the cesspits due to the proximity to the river after they submitted their initial documents.
