Just an update on the shorting with ASIC having released the outstanding figure as at 15 July. The table shows "progress" since LKE came out of the JCap trading halt.
Some notes:
- Total shorts had reached a peak of 133.548m as at the trading halt
- Coming out of the trading halt, there was huge (combined ASX/ChiX) turnover on 14 July - if the ASX & ASIC shorting figures are accurate (not always the case), it looks like the 16m new shorts on 14 July were offset by 24m short covers (ie profit-taking)
- Similarly on 15 July, the 4m new shorts were offset by nearly 13m short covers to see total outstanding shorts back to 116.7m
- The daily shorts as a % of total turnover were low on 18/19 July, but up again yesterday on a bigger turnover day.
So there looks to be some encouraging "managed" unwinding of the shorts, but hardly any signs of panic .... yet at least!
