I'm just guessing here but I think most index funds would've already exited since they have a much better idea of who's in and who's out of the next re-balance
shorts were closing out as it drew closer to 50c, and judging by the smaller numbers of new short positions i think this will be the interim battle area between the longs and shorts
what might be interesting is the after hours volume today, seen some large parcels changing hands recently - whether its returned shares or block trades, im not sure
