Hi IHS, I can see your confusion. I will try to explain the way I see it. There are two sources of information

1, ASX table of last trading day shorts.

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)publishes a list of short sale transactions reported on the most recent (previous)trading day. These are short sales only, this table does not show or include covered shorts. Notice, that there are no negative numbers in the table.

2, ASIC aggregated Short position reports graph - the one on Shortman.

Theshort sale data graph shows the number of shares on the issue currentlyreported as short sold and outstanding. (Previously covered shorts have been deducted).

SinceJune 2010 the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) hasrequired all stockbrokers to report their total short sale positions daily. This information is released fourbusiness days (T+4) after the trade on ASIC’s website. The datais four trading days behind today's date as reporting isn’t mandatory until 9am (Sydney) and three business days (T+3) post-trade.

    Hope this clarifies your query.
